Bathroom renovation and a new log heating system
Location: Oetrange
Year: 2016
Services: Wood heating, Bathroom renovation
Description: In this project a 19th-century farmhouse was completely renovated; thanks to its size and presence as a manor house amid the existing stables, it creates a special atmosphere. The old vaults on the lower half-storeys and the very solid rubble-stone construction made it difficult to route the pipes and position the heating components. A log gasification boiler combined with an oil condensing boiler provides the necessary heating output for the house and outbuildings. Here the oil boiler handles the main control of all heating components, including the hydraulic control of the connected buffer tanks with a total volume of 2,800 litres. Thanks to the large buffer volume, the wood heating only needs to be fired once a day even in winter, so the oil boiler is used only for peak loads. In summer the wood heating is not needed and hot water is provided by the oil boiler.
The two bathrooms and the guest WC were also renovated and modernised. Modern sanitary fittings and high-quality tiles were combined with the interior rubble-stone walls, creating a harmonious contrast. The niches in the shower areas and the real-glass shower screens blend seamlessly with the combination of old walls and modern flooring. New, enlarged windows that flood the rooms with light complete the picture.
